Over the last month or so, we’ve been seeing more of Cedric Alexander, and he hasn’t disappointed.
Whether it’s jumping from atop the titantron to jumping and flipping around the ring, he’s shown he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make an impression and be noticed.
While he’s immensely talented — similar to Ricochet in skill and execution — it allegedly took Paul Heyman to bring him out to center stage.
Heyman’s Role
Internet rumors, of course, run rampant, and one is that Alexander has a big fan in Heyman, and as such, Alexander is getting his current push.
The WWE is notorious for raiding other companies and signing their champions or other prime talent to bolster their ranks. Most of that talent languishes because the creative team either doesn’t know what to do with them, they need refining, or there simply isn’t any room on the main roster.
There are plenty of other reasons, but those are the top three that come to mind. The trick is, how to catch the right person’s eye?
So much of what we see each week is based on how the executives feel about someone. If there’s any doubt on that, look up Tom Magee and how Vince had him pegged as Hulk Hogan’s eventual replacement.
Opinions can change like the wind and leave a wrestler wandering a barren wasteland, or rise to the top of the sport with hordes of fans cheering (or booing if they’re a heel) their every move.
How could they have missed him?
It’s a great question, but also not surprising given differing opinions and how many superstars are ahead of them in the pecking order. A perfect example is any professional sport’s draft. What looks like a sure lock to one, isn’t to another. Then add in how the sure thing doesn’t develop for whatever reason, and you have a quagmire of talent everyone’s fighting to get out of.
Cedric Alexander has gotten his chance and is making the most of it. The only question now is how far will he go?
