According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one El Hijo del Fantasma is expected to take part in WWE’s Camp in September. El Hijo del Fantasma is better known to some, including myself, as Lucha Underground’s King Cuerno. WWE has been noted to have interest in El Hijo del Fantasma/Cuerno dating back to Lucha Underground’s first season. However, that promotion has been renowned for their incredibly strict, exclusive contracts and so WWE has been unable to pursue him until very recently.
From my experience, I can tell you that Cuerno is a very good worker, one that shows dedication to a character, and is also bizarrely ripped for his size.
I mean that’s just frightening. And that’s not a Photoshop job either, much as it looks like it. I saw him flex during a match once and it was terrifying.
He is most well known for his Arrow From The Depths Of Hell maneuver.
This sees him pantomime shooting an arrow at his opponent, before hitting the ropes twice and nailing an incredible long distance suicide dive. Though suicide dives are extremely commonplace in wrestling today, there might not be another man on the planet who does them quite like El Hijo del Fantasma. Take a look and see for yourself:
It’s hard to say exactly how far he could go if not for his pesky opponent breaking his fall. Not that I’d ever recommend he miss one just to find out!
On Lucha Underground, the King Cuerno gimmick was one of a big game hunter. This saw him come down to the ring with the stuffed head of a deer being worn like a crown. In the more cinematic segments, he would be seen in ‘street clothes’. Which, for him, consisted of a rather over-the-top cowboy attire. One that really complimented his mask, which of course he still wore.
What I’m trying to say is that this man is ridiculous in every way imaginable. Now that his name’s been brought up, I actually do kinda need him in my life again. Should he end up in WWE, I truly do hope that he remains exactly like this. The world needs to see it.
