The WWE 2K series has been a staple for several years now. It picked up immediately from where THQ left off, a legacy that could be traced back to the N64 days. While the games have been hit and miss in some areas, the sheer depth of features and roster size in recent years has been truly immense. Usually by this time of the year, we’ll have already seen the cover of the next WWE 2K installment. Traditionally the games release around October, barely over two months away and yet this year we’ve seen extremely little from 2K Games thus far on WWE 2K20.
That changes on August 5th. 2K’s official WWE Games twitter account revealed that they’ll be coming out “with more details than have ever been shared at announce” for WWE 2K20 next week. This includes giving us our first-look at gameplay footage. You can see the tweet yourself below:

WWE’s own twitter account proceeded to join in on the fun. They revealed that on August 5th, the coveted cover star for the game will be shown to the world! You can see that tweet below:

Usually, the cover reveal happens on an episode of Monday Night Raw. And wouldn’t you know it, August 5th falls on a Monday. You can bet that we’ll be seeing it right there, perhaps rolled out from the ceiling if past instances are anything to go by.
The last three cover stars were AJ Styles, Seth Rollins & Brock Lesnar respectively. One can only wonder what big name gets the honor this time around? They obviously like to spread the love and seem to have a particular fondness towards workers who are popular with the hardcore wrestling base. Those are the people who will generally be buying these games, after all.
It has to asked… isn’t it time for a female superstar to be a cover star?
We’re deep in the Women’s Revolution, and women headlined WrestleMania this year. If ever there were a time to do it, now would be it. And if ever there would be a woman for the job, one would think that it’d have to be The Man, right? Becky Lynch herself certainly thinks so.
Becky recently briefly spoke with Vincente Beltran of ViBe & Wrestling, in which she was asked about just this very idea. And she was unsurprisingly receptive to the notion:
“That would be the next step, wouldn’t it? Yeah it’s always about the next step and it’s always about being the first. The Man is synonymous with the first: the first main event of WrestleMania, the first women’s main event of SmackDown, in the first women’s ladder match, in the first women’s Royal Rumble, first SmackDown Live Women’s Champion. It’s all about being the first, so being the first woman on the cover of 2K20 would be awesome.”
Really, who else would even get the nod?
With Rollins, AJ and Lesnar all taking the spot in recent memory, not many are left. Roman Reigns would be an obvious selection if his return from leukemia made him into the star hero many expected, but it hasn’t really happened. And even now I imagine the response would be a cacophony of groans. So it seems like a sure thing, and the safest thing, to go ahead and make just a little bit more history. Plus, we have rumors abounding of the first-ever women’s showcase mode occurring in this upcoming game too, another reason this would be appropriate. Make Becky Lynch the cover star of WWE 2K20! Why not?
