The name Diamond Dallas Page, or simply DDP is a powerful one for a large chunk of wrestling fans, as the man is the definition of legendary. Making his name in World Championship Wrestling, it has been a while since we have seen him lace up his boots.
His last in ring appearances have been for WWE, in the 2015 Royal Rumble & the 2016 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, with the closest since then being a tag match in 2011 where he teamed with Kevin Nash to face The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
Despite not wrestling much anymore, it’s clear just by looking at him, he is in phenomenal shape despite being 63 years old. His Yoga program, DDP Yoga made sure of that, which is highly touted in the wrestling community. Could the master of the Diamond Cutter have one last match in him?
He Wouldn’t Have To Be Alone
DDP has aligned himself with Cody Rhodes & The Elite, as shown on this past weeks episode of AEW Dynamite, shown by how he joined them in showing Chris Jerichos Inner Circle to even the odds in a wild brawl. This could be a one off appearance where he gets physical, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of DDP joining his allies in a tag team match up, where his partners could protect him. A match like Cody, Dustin Rhodes, MJF & DDP vs. Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevera, Santana & Ortiz could make for an interesting main event for an episode of Dynamite on the road to Full Gear. The seeds are already planted for a match like this with their brawl, so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility.
DDP & Cody have had an on-screen partnership dating back to 2018’s All In, where DDP was in Cody’s corner for his NWA Championship Match against Nick Aldis, as well as other cameo appearances such as when he escorted Brandi Rhodes from ringside after she was ejected from the match between brothers Cody & Dustin by referee Earl Hebner. DDP was trained in part by Codys father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes at the WCW Power Plant, so this connection to the Rhodes family goes deep.
Expert Managerial Services Could Be Offered
Even if he doesn’t lace up the boots again for a match, there’s a strong chance he enters a role similar to Tully Blanchard’s for Shawn Spears. There is a plenty of wrestlers who could benefit from having a legend in their corner helping them with their strategy. He has been mainly associated with Cody since All In, but that doesn’t mean he can’t branch out. He has experience as a manager, managing The Fabulous Freebirds to the NWA World Tag Team Championship back in 1991, and leading two stables in AWA and WCW, known as The Diamond Exchange & The Diamond Mine.
Even if we just get to occasionally see DDP hit someone with a Diamond Cutter, that would be a fine role for DDP. He likely has a backstage role as a trainer or producer for AEW, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see him pop up to backup his friends like he did recently. The AEW roster should always be on notice, the Diamond Cutter can be hit out of nowhere after all.
