Ladies and gentlemen, whether you realize it or not, we are at the precipice of a three-day weekend of pro wrestling PPVs. Of course WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019 is this Sunday. But that’s not even close to all. The National Wrestling Alliance, which really came out of the woodwork to impress a lot of people in the fall of 2019, are returning to PPV for the first time in April tomorrow night, with their event, Into The Fire. And if that’s not enough, tonight, Ring of Honor is putting on what is nominally their biggest event of the year, the WrestleMania-equivalent if you weel, ROH Final Battle 2019!
It’s the latter that I’ll be discussing right now, as we have ten matches to look into! So let’s not waste any more time. And now, finally, we have our main event…
ROH World Championship: Rush (c) vs. PCO
It’s a pretty big time match to say the least. Rush has been much talked about in recent years, a talented and compelling luchador to watch. PCO on the other hand has been something of a Rocky story. Older fans might recognize the name Pierre Carl-Ouellet. At 51 years of age, PCO has somehow entered a new career peak. The fans of ROH have come to appreciate him more than any audience has for seemingly his entire 30+ year career. His comeback has been nothing short of phenomenal.
But as far as this match goes, it’s kind of a puzzler because atleast as a couple of months ago, both sides of this Final Battle main event were complete question marks in terms of their contract status. It seemed bewildering to me to think ROH would headline this event with two men who may well both be leaving weeks later, but that’s the reality.
Still, we never know what dealings go on behind closed doors. I’d really like to think that ROH have come to terms with one of these guys, and whoever wins this will be sticking around. And when you really look at the lay of the land, doesn’t it seem like Rush has a lot more opportunities elsewhere? For PCO on the other hand, his spot in ROH really does seem perfect for him. And c’mon, everyone who’s been following ROH this year wants it, let’s go out on a feel good note. PCO to become world champ.
With Marty Scurll presumably leaving after this event, he’d be basically taking the Villain Enterprises name with him. That’d leave PCO to reign surpreme as a beloved babyface champion on his own. Atleast that’s how I see it going down. ROH could sure use a guy like that in my eyes.
ROH Final Battle 2019 airs tonight on iPPV, 7PM CT.
