Samoa Joe is one of the most captivating voices in the world of wrestling. However, injury has meant that we haven’t seen much of him competing over the past number of months.
It was revealed on this week’s WWE Backstage that for the time being Joe will be remaining on the Raw commentary team until he is cleared to return to in-ring action.
Fans will be happy that they will see a bit of Joe, but we can’t wait for him to get back into the ring and do what he does best.
New Raw Announce Team
The announcement came as it was also revealed that Dio Maddin would be returning to the Performance Center in Orlando to concentrate his efforts on becoming of WWE superstar.
Maddin was written off television a few weeks ago when he was brutally attacked by Brock Lesnar. The Beast put Maddin through the announce table, and that marked the end of his announcing career for the time being.
Samoa Joe will now sit alongside WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler and Vic Joseph at the commentary booth.
Joe did give an update on his injury a few weeks ago on WWE Backstage, where he announced that he is taking it ‘day by day’, before confirming that it won’t be much longer until we see him in the ring again.
A return to weekly television on Raw, albeit on commentary, could be his Segway back into a rivalry before the Royal Rumble.
Potential Joe Rivalries
Raw is pretty stacked with top talent at present, which means there are a lot of interesting avenues that the WWE could go down for Joe.
He could be projected straight back into the US Championship picture, and a rivalry with Rey Mysterio or could set his sights on a potential world title bout with Lesnar.
The latter of which would require Joe being a face, and while he is good at doing that, he is better when billed as an unstoppable force; something that certainly wouldn’t be the case against the former UFC World Heavyweight champion.
The story that the two could tell with just the pair of them involved could be engaging, however, but whether the WWE has enough trust in Joe to back that up could be a separate issue entirely.
Regardless, having Joe back on weekly television is never a bad thing, and he will certainly improve the product.
