Sin Cara is as newsworthy as he’s ever been in his career. The former Hunico left WWE a few weeks back, then popped up in Mexico for the AAA promotion using his old name and music. This was never going to be permenant, and Sin Cara has already rebranded himself. His new name is Cinta De Oro, roughly translated to ‘Golden Ribbon’. He is not the first man to take up this mantle.
Cinta De Oro and Importance To Sin Cara
Cinta de Oro is the name of a luchador who passed away in 2016 and is someone who Sin Cara has looked up to for many years, especially because Sin Cara’s family lived in the same area as Cinta de Oro.
When Cinta de Oro passed away a few years ago, Sin Cara would regularly wear masks with the golden ribbon across his mask as tribute. This must be an incredibly big deal for him to be able to take up the mantle for someone he looked up to for so long.
Now he dons the mask of De Oro, and has taken the name as well. Wrestling under the image and name of a man who looked up to and respected will ensure you are always at the absolute top of your game. You don’t want to do dishonor to the legacy they built, but rather build on it in a positive manner.
Sin Cara Mask Retired
Unless WWE chooses to reassign the gimmick to another worker, the Sin Cara legacy is now dead. WWE released Sin Cara as the gimmick, not under his actual name. This seems to indicate they are moving on from it, despite having people who could breathe new life into the gimmick. Maybe we will see a new luchador pop up to capture that vital hispanic market, or they will just push someone like Humberto Carillo or Andrade Almas in that role. The gimmick sold a lot of masks, but was never as popular as they would have wanted it to be, so retiring it wouldn’t be the worst idea.
What do you think about Sin Cara’s new name? It’ll take time to get used to calling him Cinta De Oro, but he will do well to honor the legacy. Be sure to come back regularly to The Overtimer for wrestling news from all over the globe.
