Hey there everybody! Hope your holiday seasons are all shaping up nicely. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here on another Friday night to give you some preview action! Tonight we have another episode of Friday Night SmackDown on our hands and they’ve given me very slightly more to work with than usual. So let’s go ahead and look at what’s ahead of us tonight.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. Dana Brooke (Non-title)
So last week, Elias and his apparent groupie got into Bayley’s general vicinity and the Drifter made a lot of inappropriate jokes and remarks about Bayley and Sasha until the SmackDown Women’s champ challenged Dana to a match. The two faced off later that night, Dana did just enough to get a Batista Bomb in as a tribute to her apparent new boyfriend, before being defeated in fairly quick fashion. At the time I thought of it as a minute and a half, but I was off by about a minute, thanks largely to the fact that I was also writing a results post at the time the match was beginning.
According to cagematch.net, it instead took a mighty 2:44 for Bayley to put Dana Brooke away, in a match that Vince McMahon no doubt assumes will get Dana massively over. He’ll be quite baffled if Dana doesn’t get a Road Warrior pop as she emerges for this rematch, in which she, like Jungleboy this past week, strives to prove herself by this time lasting three minutes with the champ.
Honestly, I’m all for giving Dana a shot. She’s a great athlete, one of the best in the division frankly, and has remained a hard worker in spite of never having anything to do. While she was rough around the edges in the past, from her last few outings it’s clear she’s improved as a worker a ton since the last time she got any real opportunity. And SmackDown’s women’s division definitely needs a shot in the arm on the babyface side.
But after years of teaching people that she’s a nobody, pseudo pushes like this aren’t gonna get her anywhere. Not that I’m exactly hoping for an upset, but let them have as good a match as they possibly can and maybe she’ll come away with more fans than she had coming in! I’d like to think this rematch is happening because they realized that they messed this up last week and they want to rectify it, but I’m not super hopeful. Bayley to win again, regardless.
