Ladies and gentlemen it is now 2020, New Year’s Day! But more importantly it’s Wednesday, which means WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite tonight! Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here, to give you the previews for everything All Elite as usual~! It’s a special night of course, AEW Homecoming, and they’ve perhaps stacked tonight’s card more than ever before for the occasion! There’s plenty to talk about, so let’s dive into the previews!
Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks vs. PAC & The Lucha Bros
Going by general trends, there’s a solid chance this match ends up opening the show! There was a time where absolutely nothing in this business was as wild and exhilarating as Elite six-man tags, Kenny and the Bucks teaming together is a spectacle whenever it happens. And with people like this standing across from them, it’s sure to be a treat. The Lucha Bros are in many ways the most exciting team out there in their own right, and probably my personal favorite tag team going. And there’s little I can say about PAC that hasn’t been said, the man’s an absolute freak.
Long-time followers of the product may recall that this match was actually supposed to happen half a year ago.
It was initially announced for AEW Fyter Fest, before the situation with PAC temporarily kept him from working with the company and his appearances ended up being cancelled. For this match in particular, the six-man still happened but with AAA’s Laredo Kid making a special appearance to replace him.
That was definitely a lot of fun, but I did always feel it would’ve been a more memorable bout with PAC in the mix as intended. So this is effectively a make-up match, about six months in the making! It’s a fitting occasion for such a thing, and somewhat parallels the more direct and storied Fyter Fest rematch on the same night. I’m certainly looking forward to this, and it’s seemingly a bit of a compromise in-storyline as PAC has been fervently demanding a rubber match with Kenny Omega. This certainly won’t satiate him but it’s a chance to get his hands on him, and I do suspect PAC will get the win here, though he probably won’t pin Kenny to do it. PAC & Lucha Bros over.
