Just got back in and after a short rest, I’m ready to talk about the show I just watched live! One that kicked off with the latest chapter in the Hangman Page saga. AEW Dynamite came to Southaven, MS – though largely referred to as Memphis – for their Anniversary show! A year out from the official, formal announcement of All Elite Wrestling, they put on a special show to be sure. Just half an hour away from me no less, I couldn’t help but go. Now that the show’s over though, it’s back to work for me. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give you all the results from tonight’s event!
Starting, naturally, with the opener here…
Hangman Page & Kenny Omega defeated Private Party
Marq Quen & Isaiah Kassidy are valued young prospects to be sure, and if they keep improving like they have, there’s no real reason they can’t be the top stars of the tag division by this time next year. But while they’re seen this way, that doesn’t mean they have to be protected quite so heavily, easy enough to absorb losses when you’re still looked at as being in your rookie phase.
So while I didn’t predict this, the first of three bouts that I missed on this go-round, it’s not a big shock that Kenny Omega and Hangman Page ended up winning out on the night. Though, they did so only after several miscommunications. Page nearly hit Kenny with the Buckshot Lariat once again though he was able to barely stop himself. But later in the match, Kenny flipped one of their opponents in such a way that the Hangman caught a flying boot in the process.
Still, they got the win. Really my mistake here is that every week I can’t help but wonder if this will be the night. The night that they pull the trigger on the heel turn. I go into these shows thinking it’s where Hangman sets his sights on a big feud with Kenny. I know it’ll happen eventually, and can still easily be done in time for a big match at AEW Revolution. But they’ve been taking this slow. Likely waiting until we least expect it.
