My oh my, was that ever a long night… but it was sure worth it! Ladies and gentlemen, Wrestle Kingdom 14 is, technically still upon us as we speak as we are now between halves of this pro wrestling extravaganza! Night 1 finished a few hours ago as I type this and frankly I’ve only just now begun to decompress from all that I’ve witnessed. As I said before any of this even started, it’s going to go down as a truly unforgettable weekend in professional wrestling’s storied history.
The first singles match of the night went down next in line and it was far from a regular one. The match saw Jon Moxley challenge Lance Archer for the US title that he never lost in a Texas Deathmatch style contest.
Jon Moxley def. Lance Archer in a Texas Deathmatch to become IWGP United States Champion
It was as expected a brutal, violent and bloody match, with Archer’s arm being cut to red at the end, same for Moxley’s back!
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
Pounce nailed! High Elevation Uranage right onto a chair! Another ten count here… Mox makes it up at nine! Archer takes him right back down with a shot. Another claw hold locked in. My feed messed up but it seems Mox escaped again, Archer now on the outside setting up tables! He takes Moxley up top, grating his spiked hat onto his head before trying for another Emerald Flowsion! But Moxley escapes, hits the ropes, charges, Archer catches him for a chokeslam but Moxley escapes to the apron… PARADIGM SHIFT TAKES THEM BOTH OFF THE APRON AND THROUGH THE TABLES! 10 count starts, both men are down! Moxley slowly rises as the crowd is up big… Archer can’t make it, his arm is sliced and the bell has rung!
Winner: Jon Moxley
