Last night on WWE Backstage, it was confirmed that we won’t be waiting long to see her apply her craft. She will be involved in the Battle Royale to determine the Number One Contender for Rhea Ripley and her NXT Womens Championship.
Will Mercedes Martinez Make An Impact Immediately?
Mercedes isn’t unknown to WWE fans, having competed in both the Mae Young Classics, but the NXT faithful might not be super familiar with her as a wrestler yet. If she is able to win the Battle Royal over people like Candice Lerae & Io Shirai, then go on to have a strong showing against Rhea Ripley in a TV main event?
People would immediately know that she is someone to pay attention too. Often if a talent is shot right to the top of the card in a company it draws complaints, but with Mercedes as a respected 19 year veteran, people won’t be as quick to complain. She has worked hard to get here, hard enough to deserve that chance right out of the gate.
Will She Become A Trainer In Time?
With Martinez having years of experience to pull from, people suspect that after a few years of wrestling for WWE she will report to the Performance Center for a different purpose. She very well could be someone who helps the next generation of female wrestlers become stars in the industry. Many thought she would immediately jump into that type of role, but she is not ready to give up her in ring career yet.
She could fill a role like Kassius Ohno does with the men of NXT. A first big challenge who is able to bring out the best in performers, while never quite stealing the spotlight from them.
Are you excited to see Mercedes Martinez make an impact in the NXT Womens Divison, or were you hoping she would join AEW to help their womens division rise in skill?
