Renee Young appeared on Corey Graves ‘After The Bell’ Podcast this week, and they discussed her time on commentary and why it can be annoying to mention her husband on social media. Renee Young was the first women to do commentary full time for Monday Night RAW and also did commentary in NXT a few years before that, and while she had divisive opinions online about her time, she did a fine job. She is now the host of WWE Backstage, and is much more in her element.
Renee Young On Her Time On Commentary
Renee said during the interview that she works best when she able to laugh at things and make things fun. The is something she wasn’t able to do that on commentary. She is able to be much more herself on WWE Backstage. She also now loves not talking in soundbites and loves being in an on-camera role compared to a voice role. On commentary, she felt like she was second guessing herself all the time but now she isn’t, as she is back in her element when it comes to her work.
Having that freedom to let her bright personality shine is what made her so good when she appeared on Aftermath up in Canada, and she brings that same energy to WWE Backstage.
On Not Being Able To Mention Jon Moxley On Social Media
While there is nothing stopping her from mentioning the exploits of her husband, best known as Jon Moxley, the frenzy it raises from fans is enough to draw her away from doing so too often. Renee said it’s just so annoying that she can’t talk about a match that he had because there’s all of this backfire of “AEW CONFIRMED, RENEE YOUNG GOING TO AEW!!”. She is secure in her position on WWE Backstage, and has proven to be versatile enough that there will always be a role for her. While we can’t discount her eventually joining her husband in AEW, it was reported that Moxley didn’t take the AEW offered health care as he was still on Renee’s plan, so he might not want her to join AEW for that reason alone. Neither is working a particularly intense schedule, so they still have plenty of time to spend together.
