Lighter Turnout In Traditional Old School US Market
The New Beginning USA tour continued on Sunday night from Nashville, Tennessee in what is one of the old school markets in the United States New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) wants to build using their ‘slow grind’ personalized marketing approach.
The New Japan Pro Wrestling of America (NJoA), NJPW affiliate is in its infancy but remains able to garner sizeable crowds in one of their secondary markets. 560 fans gathered into the War Memorial Auditorium, in what could realistically hold between 1,000 to 1,200 fans for a wrestling event.
The event began with Misterioso and Alex Zayne defeating the NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo Young Lion team of Alex Coughlin and Ren Narita, who is on an excursion from the Noge Dojo in Japan. The second contest saw Yoshi-Hashi get back in winning form by defeating LA Dojo Young Lion Karl Fredericks.
In the third match of the evening, Toru Yano and Colt Cabana defeated LA Dojo Young Lion Clark Connors and LA Dojo original TJP to continue their winning ways.
The next three contests saw competitive special singles matches. Jeff Cobb defeated Satoshi Kojima in just over ten minutes in the fourth match of the night. Lance Archer continued his winning ways in the fifth match by defeating Yuji Nagata.
The headline match of the evening saw Hiroshi Tanahashi defeat Yujiro Takahashi with the High Fly Flow. The affair was Tanahashi’s first singles match since losing to All Elite Wrestling World Champion Chris Jericho on night-two of Wrestle Kingdom 14.
The marquee match saw Rocky Romero and IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) defeat Guerrials Of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) and Chase Owens.
The New Beginning USA tour continues later today in Raleigh, North Carolina, in front of what is expected to be a larger crowd.
