This past Wednesday, fans of All Elite Wrestling got to witness ‘Mr. Athletic’ Jeff Cobb in action, as he took Jon Moxley to his limit. He was brought in as a hired gun for Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle, but was unable to knock off the Number One contender. AEW made sure he looked like an absolute star, and this is because they would love to have Cobb on their roster. The one issue with signing with AEW over his previous home of Ring Of Honor is that it would close the door on him being able to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling. In order to try and secure this deal with Cobb, AEW have reportedly offered him a contract which would allow Cobb to work in both AEW & NJPW.
Jeff Cobb Wouldn’t Be The Only Man With This Deal
While Cobb being offered this deal is huge as a negation tool, it would make him the third man in AEW to have this type of deal. The other two are Chris Jericho & Jon Moxley, who are a pretty constant force in NJPW. Moxley is even the defending IWGP United States Champion. We can assume judging based on the lack of Jericho & Moxley on the tours of the United States that their dealings with AEW prevent them from showing up in America with NJPW. It would likely be the same deal for Jeff Cobb. He would be able to do tours and major events in Japan, but would be somewhat exclusive to AEW in the United States and Canada.
Will Cobb Sign With AEW?
With this contract offer on the table, and him already agreeing to a few more dates for AEW throughout 2020, we will likely know soon if this will be an accepted offer. It solves the issue of not being able to work with NJPW, but he might pursue a full time run in the company instead of splitting his time between two companies. He got a great reaction both in arena and only for his match with Moxley, so AEW fans would be happy to keep him around.
Do you think Jeff Cobb will sign with AEW within the year, or will he sign elsewhere? Where would you like to see Cobb land in professional wrestling? Let us know in the comments down below.
