Earlier this month, Will Ospreay finally claimed the British Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Zack Sabre Jr at Revolution Pro Wrestling High Stakes. Not one to rest, he immediately started looking for his next challenger, for the next big show for Rev Pro on May 8th. While Zack Sabre Jr could get a rematch, or someone else from New Japan Pro Wrestling could get a shot, an old rival has come knocking. This is Jimmy Havoc.
Jimmy Havoc Once Tried To Cut Will Ospreays Ear Off
In the early days of Progress Wrestling, their biggest storyline was known as ‘The Regression Of Jimmy Havoc’. Havoc came into the company known for his deathmatch wrestling, and that wouldn’t fly in the culture of Progress. He would try his best to evolve into a proper wrestler to get a role in the company, and become a popular underdog babyface in the process. He would then snap, attack promoter Jim Smallman, and use a clause in his contract to get a shot at then Progress Champion Mark Andrews.
This was the start of his reign of terror alongside The London Riots. During he 608 days as Progress Champion, a young Will Ospreay would be his greatest rival. During their many encounters, they would brutalize each other. The peak came at Progress Chapter 13, when Ospreay would find himself restrained as a crazed Havoc tried to cut his ear off while ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ would play. He was unsuccessful. Ospreay would be the one to unseat him as champion, and they have clashed a few times since that time. They are fantastic rivals, and bring out the best in each other.
Would Havoc Work In NJPW?
While the British Heavyweight Championship is property of Rev Pro, it is a common title for NJPW shows. It was even defended at Wrestle Kingdom this year. Due to this, anyone who holds it has a chance to crossing over into NJPW for a few shows. This means that this potential match could open some doors for Jimmy Havoc as a performer. As noted, he is mostly known for deathmatches, but is also a hard hitting and technical performer when he has to be. NJPW isn’t opposed to violence, and Havoc would fit in well facing people like Minoru Suzuki & Jon Moxley.
