Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. Bayley will be defending her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Naomi in what will be remembered by WWE as a very historic title defense. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Naomi
Well, we got here eventually. It was a touch convoluted in my estimation, but here we are. After initially losing a No. 1 Contender’s Fatal Four Way match, Naomi managed to defeat Carmella in a singles bout last week to earn this shot at the gold. Bayley made her intentions clear, wanting to make history by being the first women’s champion to defend her title in Saudi Arabia. It is, after, only the second women’s match to ever take place there, period. Once Lacey/Nattie happened, you always had to figure that this was the next step, and much back patting will commence once all is said and done.
So the question now is, do they take this opportunity to go all the way with this and have the first-ever women’s title change in Saudi Arabia? Does Naomi end up getting this distinction as the first woman to win a professional wrestling title in this part of the world? Or do they save this distinction for later, so as to spread out their historic moments? It’s hard to say. Everyone assumes Bayley makes it to Mania with the title but I can’t help but think of how much WWE would love to pull the trigger on this just for the headlines. I guess on balance though I’ll say Bayley retains.
