And as always, you will be getting the full coverage of tonight’s show! That includes recaps and results from the show moments after the conclusion of each segment, plus a preview of everything you can expect! There is definitely some interesting stuff on tap for this one so let’s get to it!
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship: Carmella vs. Bayley (c)
Hey, who here misses Carmella’s reign as champion of the blue brand from 2018 eh?! Haha yeah, uh, me neither. Those were dark days. We had that instead of Asuka for some reason. Like, directly, that was the active choice made. And they gave it their damnedest with her too. She actually had more successful title defenses on PPV that year than anyone other than AJ Styles. This is a true stat. The fact that she spent 2019 as primilarly a non-wrestler kinda tells you what WWE felt about it afterwards though.
She did get notably more over in that role though, which probably also says something. She became a uh, not girlfriend, but associate… dance partner? To R-Truth and their vague relationship actually did a lot to endear her to people and get her accepted as a babyface. Now it seems they’re testing the waters with her in a more serious in-ring role again.
I kinda expected this match to occur at WWE Super Show-Down after she became No. 1 Contender just for the historic nature that it would bring. Maybe it’ll still happen and tonight will just have a little shmozz finish. Who knows. But one thing is for sure, Carmella is not about to be women’s champion again in the near future. It was made pretty clear that Naomi is the real direction for WrestleMania and we will no doubt be moving onto Bayley/Naomi within the next few weeks. The Princess of Staten Island is just the in-between to that. Bayley will still be champ after this match, regardless of what goes down.
