CBS The Young and the Restless Spoilers here with a fun idea to help coax a little something out of everyone’s favorite character — Summer Newman (Hunter King).
As awesome as Summer’s been, she’s been around long enough for us to get a character with more grit and depth to her backstory to really bring her to life.
A Summer story
It’s the story with any character as the actor can only do so much before more history needs to be added to really flesh them out and rekindle a spark before it dwindles. We hear about this from actors all the time, and it’s not too much to ask for, especially if it’s coming from the fans.
This is similar to a recent interview with Y&R alum and great Victor Newman (Eric Breaden) where he said he went to the show’s creator, the late William J. Bell, and asked for him to give him a backstory he could work with. According to Eric Breaden, that’s when Mr. Bell came up with Victor’s history being he was raised in an orphanage. It gave the character so much wonderful material that Eric Breaden said that’s what helped him decide to remain in the role.

While there’s been no public mention of this by Hunter King, it’d be a good idea for the writers to start working on this before any uncertainty set in. Not only does Hunter King deserve this, but so do we. As fans of this show, or any show for that matter, we’re the one that give them ratings and make them number one for thirty-one plus years.
Of course, the writers of The Young and the Restless are probably already working on it, but maybe it’d be better if we start voicing ourselves more?
CBS The Young and the Restless Spoilers will happily continue sharing updates and thoughts on this as they come, so stay tuned.
Character growth
With the aforementioned character growth comes new opportunities for relationships. Perhaps it’s time for Summer to be around Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) more than usual. She’d be good for him and force his character to grow as well.
A little depth for one can lead to depth for another and before we know it, we’re waiting for their huge wedding and the pitter-patter of little feet to grace the screen.
Yeah, that’s getting ahead of ourselves, but it never hurts to aim for the gold, right?
Now, all we gotta do is keep mentioning this to the Y&R people and good things can happen. We’ve got until at least 2024 to make this happen, and nothing says it can’t in 2020. What do we have to lose aside from gaining a potential power couple to enjoy?
