Yep, I’m trying to kick this one up again… after like two months off, tonight we’ll be covering All Elite Wrestling’s secondary show, AEW Dark! (That is until the new TNT show comes later this year whenever that happens, at which point it’ll be third place…) AEW’s resident alien Kris Statlander takes on Diamante here tonight! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and I’ll be giving you the same kind of coverage you can expect from any show, meaning the results, the recaps and of course the previews for everything you can expect to see! The show is premiering on YouTube as I type this and I’ll be covering the aftermath very soon after! So let’s take a look at what’s on tap.
Diamante vs. Kris Statlander
So Kris Statlander is among the surprising sleeper hits of late 2019, seemingly coming out of nowhere to get signed and make a splash on Dynamite in quick succession, culminating with her challenging Riho for the AEW World Women’s Championship last month. This was basically ruined by the Nightmare Collective, who were greatly intent on recruiting her until they basically quietly disappeared following Dr. Luther and Mel’s turning on Awesome Kong and Brandi Rhodes re-emerging as something much closer to her old self during her husband’s strapping.
This means Statlander’s basically in the clear now and should be gaining momentum again in a hurry. Diamante on the other hand is a newcomer with a lot less proven by comparison but is an interesting name all the same. She’s most known for her time in Impact Wrestling, though sadly most of that was lost to injury. Still, she was a member of the rebooted LAX stable – indeed, the same one that brought Santana and Ortiz to the world’s attention. If Diamante can impress with the opportunities that she gets, is there any chance a spot in the Inner Circle might open up for her? They are missing a representative in the Women’s division after all, and I’d consider that a requisite for total conquest.
Regardless of what the future may hold for her, Statlander’s far and away the more promising prospect at the moment so it’s a definite that she should be taking this one. Kris Statlander over, and hopefully the wins will propel her back to Dynamite sooner rather than later.
