It’s Tuesday! And for all you YouTubing wrestling fans, that means another episode of AEW Dark goes up today! Shawn Spears gives it the ‘ol college try with another tag partner in Peter Avalon, and goes up against Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall! My name is Jordan Huie, you are visiting us here at the Overtimer where as always you can expect the full coverage of tonight’s show! That means recaps and results from every match as they come, plus in-depth previews for each bout on the card as well! So let’s not waste any time getting to it!
Shawn Spears & Peter Avalon vs. Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall
For being largely random, this match has a ton of history to it. For starters, we of course recall the past that Cody Rhodes shares with Spears, so there will be no love lost from his big brother Dustin to be sure. These things die hard, after all. As of late, Spears and his manager Tully Blanchard have been in hot pursuit of an appropriate tag team partner for the Chairman of AEW. Of course, Spears has teamed unsuccessfully with Avalon in the past but it seems he’s getting a second chance here tonight.
As for QT Marshall, he’s a known friend of the Rhodes family, so teaming with Dustin isn’t too strange. Last week he and Avalon were on the same side, in an uphill battle against the Young Bucks, but they just could not get on the same page. After all, Avalon really wanted to cheat and QT really didn’t. The conclusion of the match saw Avalon give QT a knock-out punch, only to turn right around into the Buzzsaw that was the Young Bucks’ double team maneuvers, signaling the end of the contest.
So it seemed pretty apparent that the two men who each find themselves near the bottom of the win/loss pool would be on a collision course sooner than later. No surprise then that they end up on being on opposite sides here this evening. Something else of note here is that Tully Blanchard and Leva Bates will be backing up the heels whilst Brandi Rhodes will be the manager for the faces, meaning there is a lot of potential for shenanigans there. But my prediction for this one is that the babyface side gets the win.
I could see QT pinning Avalon, as I figure that will happen eventually but might be saved for a singles match. Dustin is the smart one to have win considering that he outright has a PPV main card match coming up this weekend, where he’s a huge underdog at that, so he could use all the cred he could get. Don’t be surprised if he beats Spears, whose tag team woes shall continue. Either way, advantage faces.
