There has been lots of news coming out of the Impact Wrestling tapings in Las Vegas. From Tessa Blanchard retaining in her Impact Heavyweight Championship, to fantastic matches from Eddie Edwards & Michael Elgin, it will be worth keeping up on over the next few weeks. Biggest of all is a new faction formed by Rob Van Dam, Katie Forbes, and Joey Ryan. Rob Van Dam recently made news in Impact Wrestling because of a segment involved in getting Impact banned from Twitch for one week. With the new direction they will be taking, that will not be an issue going forward.
#CancelCulture
The faction was started by Joey Ryan, who came out in much more conservative clothing than people know him for. He is to go by his full name, Joseph P. Ryan and vows to never do his signature dick flip spot again. He is essentially bringing back the attitude era faction, Right To Censor. Along for this ride is an ECW legend. Rob Van Dam who will be going by Robert Van Dam, and his girlfriend Kate Forbes round out the group at this time. The Cancel Culture is the name, and it will prove to be a very interesting gimmick going forward. This also means there will be no more soft-core porn segments with RVD and Forbes, which will surely please the Twitch admins. It’s unclear how Forbes will be able to cover up, but science finds a way.
A Huge Opportunity For Joey Ryan
This gimmick could be a launching point to make Joey Ryan an even bigger star. He is someone who while a solid worker in the ring, truly excels with character work. It takes a great performer to get years of business out of a gimmick where you dress like a sleazy porn star and flip people with your penis. He was even killed off in proto-AEW series ‘Being The Elite’, only to show back up at All In with an army of Penis Druids. This was something taken directly out of the nightmare journal of Jim Cornette.
Being placed into a faction with a legend of wrestling like RVD will help put some focus on Ryan as he tries something different. This opportunity is something that he should be able to smash out of the park. Plus imagine the reaction when it is revealed that the P. in Joseph P. Ryan stood for penis all along as he flips RVD into oblivion.
