The marquee match of the February 6 Road to the New Beginning event from Korakuen Hall was largely responsible for the increased house to 1,408 as the Los Ingobernables de Japon team of NEVER Opeweight Champion Shingo Takagi, Evil, and Bushi made their V1 defense of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship against the CHAOS team of Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, and Robbie Eagles.
Robbie Eagles had the opportunity to become the first Australian born champion in the history of New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). The match was arguably the best in the history of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship both sides brought creativity, energy, and unique pacing to the contest.
Ishii and Shingo had numerous physical exchange against one another, but the battle between Robbie Eagles and Bushi was the main narrative of the match. Eagles defeated Bushi on both nights of The New Beginning in Sapporo with the Ron Miller Special, Reverse Figure Four Technique, and used the same leg focused strategy against Bushi on the 6th.
However, Bushi was able to outlast two Eagles attempts to submit him with his patented submission. Learning from his two submission defeats to Eagles, Bushi used his mist to blind his foe — leading to him hitting his MX technique and grabbing the victory for LIJ.
Immediately after the victory, Toru Yano and Ryusuke Taguchi ran out to the ring and stole the NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championships before LIJ were able to retrieve them after their successful V1 defense. Also, Ishii and Takagi had a staredown over the NEVER Openweight Championship with Ishii challenging Takagi and the latter accepting the match for a later date.
