It’s that time of the week again… time for the Wednesday Night Wars to grace us once again! All Elite Wrestling brings us another episode of AEW Dynamite! Tonight, in a follow-up from what went down in last week’s wild tag team battle royal, The Best Friends will take on the Butcher & the Blade! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and as always, you can expect a full coverage of tonight’s show. That means results and recaps from every segment as soon as they conclude, plus a preview of what’s on tap this evening! Let’s get to it!
The Best Friends vs. The Butcher & The Blade
As mentioned above, this match stems from last week’s tag team battle royal. It’s one of two matches tonight that are occurring as a result of what went down in that crazy match. During the battle royal, Trent found himself all by his lonesome through much of the duration. He and the Butcher both went deep and he found himself battling on the apron. Loyal friend Orange Cassidy was there to catch him whenever he needed it, until the Bunny – manager of the Butcher & the Blade – intervened in this. With a low blow she took out Cassidy, and thus no one was there to save Trent when the Butcher ousted him.
Tensions were pretty high between the two teams after that. So it now seems that, in a rare instance, the mercenary band are wrestling for themselves, rather than at the behest of MJF or anyone else. They’re up against Trent and Chuck here tonight in a bit of a grudge match.
Now, my first inclination is to predict a Best Friends victory, given that they’re much more over. But I do think going forward, more heel teams will need to be pushed and it doesn’t necessarily feel like things got settled between the mercs and the Young Bucks, who I expect to be tag champs coming off of Revolution. In other words, a tag title opportunity might be in the near future for the Butcher and the Blade. And if that’s the case, then they really do have to win that match. Having said that, last week also showed a bit of the relation that the Best Friends have with the Bucks as well… but on balance, I’ll say that the Butcher and the Blade get something of an upset here.
