Back around August 2019, around the start of Bray Wyatt’s time as ‘The Fiend’, he would attack Jerry Lawler with the Mandible Claw. This was a one-off angle to help establish the new persona of Bray Wyatt as an absolute killer, and and easy way to do that is to drop a legend like Jerry Lawler. While this was a short and safe angle, Bray Wyatt wants more with Jerry Lawler at some point.
The Fiend vs. Jerry Lawler Wouldn’t Happen In WWE
Ever since Jerry Lawler took a heart attack live on air during a 2013 episode of RAW, WWE has not let him get too physical. This makes sense, but is more a thing with WWE and not Jerry himself. Lawler will find a way into the ring until the day he finally perishes, and he has most recently wrestled in August of 2018, working a match with Mance Warner in Game Changer Wrestling.
Lawler made it clear on his podcast that he would relish the idea of facing ‘The Fiend’ in his home territory of Memphis. “I just thought back then, what matches I could have had. Because Wyatt was the perfect kind of villain that we would bring in. The big scary monster type. That’s the kind of people that I love to work with, and have matches with.”
Jerry Lawler Is A God In Memphis
Despite his old age, Jerry Lawler has built such a strong legacy over his 50 year career in Memphis. He became a 51 time AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion in the region, and once that belt was retired in 1987, he would instead capture the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship 27 times. This just goes to show that he was the man at the top of the mountain there, and still is to this day.
If WWE would approve a one off match between Lawler & Wyatt in Memphis, it would be a spectacle. The match would have to be worked at a pace that befits a 70 year old man, but the combined presence of the two alone on the right stage with the right crowd would be legendary. Seeing as Bray Wyatt approached Lawler after their segment to say ‘King I would love to work with you down in Memphis.’, I think Wyatt would love to see it happen as well.
