The Fiend is no longer the Universal Champion following a loss to Goldberg at Super Showdown. In just 3 short minutes and with a botched Jackhammer, the 51 year old ended the second world title reign of Bray Wyatt. However, this could be a blessing in disguise, as it opens up a chance for a new feud to begin tonight on Smackdown Live.
The Fiend Has More Debts To Collect
The initial idea behind The Fiend was for him to get payback on those who wronged him in the past. This started with Kane, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins & Daniel Bryan. There are many others who will still face his wrath, and one of them is making his return to Smackdown Live tonight.
At Wrestlemania 30, we saw Bray Wyatt defeated by the always triumphant John Cena, killing his initial momentum. With The Fiend never forgetting, he is likely to be the next proper victim.
This feud could have easily worked with The Fiend as Universal Champion, as it would add in Cena chasing his 17th world championship. The past animosity between them should be enough to make things tense however.
Rehabbing After Goldberg
Despite Goldberg being a massive star in his day, and remaining a powerful force, WWE made a ton of fans mad with his victory. This is nothing new, the same reaction came after he beat Kevin Owens for his first Universal Championship. This does mean that The Fiend will need to be given a big win to get back on track.
He might have moved to part time status, but John Cena still remains one of the best in the business. Should The Fiend be able to defeat Cena with ease, fans will forget about Goldberg fairly quickly. Bray Wyatt has survived much worse than this, and all signs point to the creative direction of The Fiend being fine. Goldberg was simply a major bump in the road.
If this feud is the intended plan, it will take shape tonight on Smackdown Live. The history is there, and Cena needs a big match, the pieces all match up nicely, should WWE put them together.
