I can’t say I’d blame you at all for not realizing this… but it turns out that the 2020 iteration of the WWE Elimination Chamber is on tonight! The show is on as I speak, well underway in fact but my work is not yet done! Aleister Black will be taking on AJ Styles in a No DQ match here tonight! My name is Jordan Huie, you are here with us tonight at the Overtimer where we’ll be giving you live coverage of WWE Elimination Chamber! That means recaps and results from the show as they come, plus previews of everything you can expect! As I said, the show is already going and this match is up soon so let’s get a move on!
Aleister Black vs. AJ Styles w/ The OC (No Disqualification Match)
Last week on Raw, AJ Styles made Aleister go through the whole OC in a Gauntlet before he’d face him. Black defeated Karl Anderson, Gallows got himself DQ’d beating on him, leaving him easy pickings for AJ to defeat without too much difficulty. This made for the first time Aleister had lost a match on Raw since joining the brand back in October, finally ending a lengthy undefeated streak. This all happens as AJ is heading towards a match with the Undertaker at WrestleMania. So it’s safe to say that the name of the game is making him look as strong as possible.
But there’s a bit of a roadblock there… AJ went down with an injury at the Rumble and since then, it kinda seems like he never actually got cleared for more than basic contact. Aside from a single chokeslam at Super Show-Down, AJ basically hasn’t taken a bump since Edge speared him. The theory seems to be that he’s not really cleared for a real match yet but they needed him to come back to start building the match in advance.
It’s sad because otherwise you’d have to think these two men could put on a classic battle, I’d really love to see these two have the kind of match they’re capable of. I’m sure it’ll happen somebody. But tonight, I’m not so sure. It is No DQ after all, meaning the OC can and will interfere. It wouldn’t be crazy if it ended up being more a Black vs. Gallows/Anderson handicap match with AJ just watching, until the time came for him to pick up the cheap win. Either way, AJ Styles over.
