The last true independent wrestler David Starr will no longer be appearing for the German promotion wXw. His last appereance was as part of their annual 16 karat gold tournament, where he was knocked out in the second round. Following what will be his final match for the promotion, he would break character and open up to the fans.
Freedom of Speech Doesn’t Mean Freedom From Consequences
David Starr is perhaps the most outspoken person in the entire wrestling industry right now. He is constantly rallying against WWE, and has even taken shots at AEW during his feud with Jon Moxley for Over The Top Wrestling. Not even Ring Of Honor was safe, as he would cut a promo on them and their owners Sinclair Broadcasting which was pulled from Twitter prior to his match with Jay Lethal. It was only a matter of time before his mouth caught up with him.
Another reason WWE is against him is that he is the biggest name pushing pro wrestlers to finally unionize, something WWE wants to stay far away from. Having Starr even in affiliate companies like wXw is not something WWE wants, meaning they have finally cracked down and forced him out. The only place we could see Starr mingle with WWE talent is Over The Top Wrestling, which seems to be the only place in wrestling where outside influence doesn’t matter.
David Starr Confirms Exit On Twitter
As a man of the people, he would take to Twitter and let the masses know what is going on.
“I won’t go into further details regarding wXw on this platform and idk when/if I will in any public setting.
Like I said, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences and that this mutual decision was one that neither of us wanted to make.
I love wXw & always will.”
It is clear that this was not an easy choice for any people involved. Starr was one of the top names wXw brought in regularly, and a fan favorite within Germany. He will not be the only person who is eventually pushed out of anything to do with WWE, just the first major name.
