The NWA is one of many companies effected by the outbreak of COVID-19. They were forced to cancel their upcoming PPV, the latest iteration of the Crockett Cup. With the NWA Powerrr tapings heavily focused on the build to this major event, they have made the choice to air something else in their usual Tuesday night time slot. They are going to be showing their entire 70th Anniversary PPV from October 2018.
The Main Event Saw NWA Champion Cody Face Nick Aldis
Before All Elite Wrestling was the worldwide success that we know today, some of the crew we know from AEW would run a huge show called All In. It was the biggest indy show ever, and with the help of ROH, NJPW & NWA talent it was one to remember. One of the best matches on that card was a clash between NWA Champion Nick Aldis and Cody Rhodes, which saw Rhodes win the championship his father held countless times. A month later, they would clash again at the 70th Anniversary show in a two out of three falls match, which main evented this event.
While the main attraction on this card was Aldis vs. Rhodes, they delivered a great show from top to bottom. We would see NWA Women’s Champion Jazz defend against Penelope Ford, and see a new National Champion crowned after the belt sat vacant.
We Could See The 2019 Crockett Cup Aired Soon As Well
While the National Wrestling Alliance is good at coming up with fresh content on the fly, they will need time to produce that content. Airing PPV’s is a good idea, but they might run out of options fairly quickly. They haven’t done many in this revival, but they will have the last Crockett Cup, Into The Fire, and Hard Times as options for showing in their time slot on YouTube while they figure out another solution.
The main event from this show has been available for free on their Youtube channel for a while now, but this is the first time they have posted the full show for free viewing. It is a smart move on their part, and should give wrestling fans a chance to kick back, relax, and watch wrestling again tonight.
