Jon Moxley was not the only man to claim a World Championship last night. Over in Ring of Honor, RUSH has reclaimed the ROH Championship from PCO to enter his second reign with the championship. He lost the title at Final Battle in December, in a wild brawl of a match.
Forming A Branch Of Los Ingobernables In ROH
One of the factors which helped get RUSH back to the lofty heights of ROH Champion again is that he has backup now. This comes in the form of a branch of the Los Ingobernables faction in ROH. RUSH is a founding member of the original incarnation of the faction in Mexico, so it was only a matter of time before he would bring it to ROH. With Dragon Lee & Kenny King in his corner cheering him on, he has refound his success in ROH.
RUSH Might Not Be The Best Option
While a fantastic wrestler, RUSH isn’t exactly the most popular star in ROH. PCO on the other hand has consistently been getting the biggest reactions in the company for a while now. He didn’t fit the defined role of what people expect of a ROH Champion, but he might have been what the company needs. A respected dominant veteran of the ring that fans want to see makes for a strong champion as you rebuild your brand.
RUSH is undoubtedly a better wrestler than PCO, and as a heel he might have a better chance at getting reactions from the crowds. At the very least, its a better choice than putting the Championship back on Matt Taven.
RUSH Joins Elite Company
Part of what makes the ROH Championship such a prestigious title is how infrequent multiple reigns have been. Since 2002, we have only seen a few men hold it more than once. These include Austin Aries, Jay Briscoe, Jay Lethal, and the only three time champion Adam Cole. As they fail to keep stars, we will likely see more repeat champs with people like Matt Taven & Dalton Castle, but RUSH is only the fifth man since 2002 to accomplish this feat.
