Ever since NXT went to Wednesday evenings on USA in response to AEW going on TNT, it has been a ratings war. While it isn’t as intense as it was in the late 90’s with WWE & WCW, it is a driving factor behind the scenes. People like Triple H have denied a war is brewing, but one of the aces of NXT Tommaso Ciampa is one of the few being honest on the WWE side of things.
Tommaso Ciampa Wants To Win
With NXT being a near decade old brand, and AEW being the hot new product, things have been leaning towards AEW since the very beginning. Both shows are bringing in fans, but AEW has had the clear edge going forward.
“It makes it a little bit more fun. It brings that competitive edge out. I mean have friends over there and I also have people over there I’ve never met or ever shared a ring with. It’s awesome to see, you know, everyone just elevating their game. Everyone just wants it. I don’t know if people say ratings don’t matter… they sure as Hell matter. Like, you want to win,” is what Ciampa had to say when asked about this ratings war in an interview.
The biggest point here is that is amazing to see everyone on these shows be on the top of their game every week. Wednesday nights have two of the best rosters in wrestling today proving exactly why they are the best around.
The War Is Between Shows, Not Old Friends
While both brands want to be the ones bringing in the most viewers, most of the people on both brands had come up together on the indies. There are even some cross promotion couples like NXT Champion Adam Cole & AEW’s Brit Baker. We would see plenty of faces from NXT show up at the AEW New Years Eve party as well. They are motivating each other to do their absolute best, but there isn’t much animosity coming across the lines. At the end of the day, it is has just given fans four hours of incredible wrestling to look forward too every week.
