While Drew McIntrye is set to do anything needed to leave Wrestlemania 36 as WWE Champion, he has shown nothing but respect for one of the most dominant champions of the past decade. He has constantly put Brock over as one of the best in the business in the lead up to their match, and that continues as he credits Brock for how good the reactions Drew got at Royal Rumble went.
A Refresher On What Happened At Royal Rumble
At Royal Rumble 2020, it was a match of two stories. The first half saw Brock Lesnar dominate and face old foes in Kofi Kingston & Rey Mysterio, as well as him getting rocked by Keith Lee. Despite that, he would eliminate half the match himself before being faced down by Ricochet & Drew McIntyre. After a low blow from Ricochet, Drew would hit a huge claymore and eliminate Brock to a huge reaction from the crowd. McIntyre would go on to win the match, last eliminating Roman Reigns to punch his ticket to Wrestlemania 36. While the match won’t happen infront of a crowd, it went on like planned in the closed area of the WWE Performance Center.
Drew McIntyre Praises Brock Lesnar
“If it wasn’t for that story that went in there to build Brock up as the monster he truly is, which in turn made Drew McIntyre when I put him out, that’s the reason the reaction was so big. He made sure that story was told correctly. Watching him put that together, watching him at work, that was the first time I went, ‘Wow, this guy is really a genius.’”
For all his flaws with the part time schedule and being an absent champion, there are few in the business with a better mind than Brock Lesnar. We have seen many who have worked with him in the past say similar things, with John Cena calling him one of the greatest of all time. Brock Lesnar is one of the more polarizing figures around, and it’s hard to get a read on him, but by all accounts; he has professional wrestling down path perfectly at this stage. We can only hope that he spend the rest of 2020 ensuring that McIntyre is the next big star for WWE, as Wrestlemania 36 is unlikely to be their only clash.
