AEW Dynamite comes to us once again here tonight. Kenny Omega teams up with one of his longest-running partners Michael Nakazawa against the Best Friends, Chuck Taylor & Trent Baretta here tonight. My name is Jordan Huie, you are here with us at the Overtimer where you can expect the same coverage as always for tonight’s show. That means a live recap and results as they come, plus previews of the announced matches. With the show only ten minutes away, let’s get to it!
Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa vs. The Best Friends (Trent & Chuck Taylor) w/ Orange Cassidy
This is a bit funny. It’s not every day you see one half of the tag team champions team up with someone other than his partner, but then again these are some odd times. It actually seems notable to me that we haven’t seen from Hangman Page since the initial empty arena show. Whether that’s due to self-quarantine or not wanting him out there when he can’t do his crowd interaction gimmick (he was regularly taking several cups of beer a night from generous fans before all of this started) is hard to say. It may even simply be another story beat in his ongoing saga of being the one member of the Elite who simply doesn’t want to be in the Elite at all.
Either way, Kenny finds himself paired up with Michael Nakazawa instead, an established friend of his and someone he’s teamed with on-and-off for quite some time. But they’re up against a top flight team that’s been gaining a lot of traction in the Best Friends. While they haven’t gotten major wins of late, they have impressed in singles matches. Orange Cassidy in his debut one-on-one bout with PAC, Trent in a match with Kenny himself last week that almost went to the 20 minute time limit, and Chuck Taylor… well he’s been in a perpetual battle to get to say the S-word on TNT.
Tonight sure seems like a prime opportunity for the Best Friends to put themselves into the title chase. Especially when so many teams seem to be unavailable right now, including the Death Triangle, of whom they were in the midst of a feud with when this all started. I can only imagine that the Best Friends win here, pinning Nakazawa to help setup a title match against Kenny and Page.
