WWE WrestleMania 36 continues. R-Truth is running around hiding with the 24/7 title, asks Gronk to not get crunk, wanting him and Mojo to be quiet. After a moment of silence, they both gang on him, Gronkowski covers him but Mojo pulls Gronk off and pins Truth instead to take the title from him. And now it’s time for the WWE Universal Championship match with Braun Strowman challenging Bill Goldberg. Braun of course replacing Roman Reigns at the last minute.
WWE Universal Championship: Bill Goldberg (c) vs. Braun Strowman
They stand toe-to-toe. I can’t imagine this goes for long. Staredown commences. Goldberg with a kick to the gut, whip to the corner, charge, Braun evades him, hoists him for the Powerslam but Goldberg escapes, spear! Braun scrambles up, second spear! Third spear aaaand nope that’s a nearfall! And there is the rare fourth spear. Goldberg poses, howls, snorts. Wants the Jackhammer but Strowman counters into a Powerslam! Goldberg scrambles up, Strowman with another Powerslam. And a third one. Remember when finisher spamming was a low rent indy thing? Now you can’t see a WrestleMania without atleast one of these matches. Strowman hoists Goldberg up, spins him around, plants him with a running Powerslam and… he pins him, that’s it. Wow. I’ll be damned.
Winner: Braun Strowman
Wow. This is uh, shock for the sake of it I think? I wonder if maybe Goldberg only had this one match left on his contract or something. This is just kinda startling. We’re simply not doing Roman/Goldberg now it looks like. Or if we are, it’s not gonna for the title anytime soon. I guess we could get to that by SummerSlam if things turn back to normal soon enough, who knows.
There’s certainly been a few surprises on this show, I’ve actually done pretty garbage at my predictions but this was by far the shock of the show so far, I’m not sure any other result of the weekend could take me off guard as much as this one. I never really thought Strowman would be world champ at this point. I mean I thought it would’ve been a great thing to see a couple of years ago, there was a time I was really psyched to see it happen but it’s, really passed. Now he gets his first world title win here with nobody to react to it. Oh well. We’ll see where this goes.
