Right now, The Inner Circle is one of the more entertaining aspects of All Elite Wrestling. The faction headed by Chris Jericho has been a focal point of AEW since Dynamite began, with a few members being added along the way. The group currently consists of Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hagar and the tag team of Santana & Ortiz. They also worked with Jeff Cobb when he was brought in to attack Jon Moxley on the road to AEW Revolution. This faction has remained just big enough to cover AEW, and were set to meet The Elite in a match dubbed Blood & Guts before it was postponed. Thankfully, fans don’t need to worry about the group growing uncontrollably, as Jericho knows that gets dangerous.
Chris Jericho Will Ensure The Inner Circle Will Not Become The NWO
While the New World Order in WCW was a game changing stable, it grew out of control very quickly. When it was just big names like Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, & Kevin Nash, they had an undeniable cool factor to them, but they were accepting all members, even if they didn’t fit the vibe that the group was building. Being around in WCW at this time, Jericho has taken note on what didn’t work and is applying that to his own faction.
Speaking with Sportskeeda, he said the following when asked about new members being added to the group. “To me, everything is based on the story, the story that we’re telling, what fits, what doesn’t fit. I think one of the downfalls of the original nWo was when they started having Virgil and guys like that in there. It kind of takes some of the exclusiveness and cool factor. If someone’s gonna be in The Inner Circle and get asked into The Inner Circle for real, it’s gonna have to be for a very good reason and something I’m going to have to be convinced of. I’m not opposed to it, but I’m not actively searching for new members.”
This is a smart approach, as even in NJPW factions like Bullet Club, there are unneeded members, while a group like Los Ingornables De Japon are proof that quality over quantity is sometimes the best approach.
