In NXT, one of the best stories is one that has truly blurred the lines of fiction and reality. This involves Drake Maverick, a man who is not currently under a WWE contract. He was released a few weeks back along with others like EC3, Rusev, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson. Despite this, he has a second chance with WWE. This is because he was to be involved in the NXT Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament, in the A-Block alongside KUSHIDA, Tony Nese, & Jake Atlas.
WWE Is Drawing Way Too Much Attention To The Situation
It is an unusual situation, as usually once a wrestler is released they don’t show up on WWE TV anymore. They are not mentioned, they are gone. In this situation, they can’t do that as Drake Maverick still has two more matches for the company to complete, as he will face both KUSHIDA & Tony Nese. Despite this, they have drawn an insane amount of focus to this situation. It was constantly mentioned on commentary, Jake Atlas had second thoughts about finishing Maverick to win their match, and it has become a storyline on screen.
Will Drake Maverick Be Resigned?
While it as been reported that Maverick is no longer under WWE contract despite this being made into a storyline, we are only at the start of it. We won’t know his true fate until his matches are over. WWE could use this angle to make themselves seem like the good guys, despite firing a batch of wrestlers while preparing to announce some great numbers from their finances. After his final tournament match, we could see an emotional Drake Maverick be handed his second chance by Triple H in a WWE contract, officially transitioning Maverick to an in-ring talent.
If WWE has no intentions to bring Maverick back to their roster, this is a perfect sign that WWE is a terrible company when it comes to their morals. On the other hand, there was no match this past week as gripping as Maverick vs. Atlas, with the pure emotion showing in the ring. Maverick is going to prove himself a star in his next two matches, and that will help him with whatever comes next in his career, be that WWE, AEW, NWA, NJPW, or beyond.
