If your first exposure to Sami Zayn was his match with Daniel Bryan from Wrestlemania 36, you would think Sami Zayn is one of the worst wrestlers in the company. This is a stark contrast to his past, when he was often touted as one of the best in the world. Even within WWE, has had instant classics with Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura, Neville, John Cena and more. He proved to be one of the best in the world, but lately any flash he had has been muted. His moveset has been cut down to minor brawling and his Helluva Kick. Is this due to injuries?
Sami Zayn Has Injured Both Shoulders In The Past
One reason that many feel Sami Zayn is not the man he used to be is that he has had serious injury to both shoulders in the past, missing a lot of time because of those injures. His high flying and often dangerous style contributed to this, and those moves could now pose too high a risk to Zayn. This has made his rare matches often boring affairs, with Zayn playing the role of an opportunistic heel, especially now that he is flanked by Cesaro & Nakamura. However, this could also be the reason for his reduced moveset.
His Moves Popped The Crowd, Even As A Heel
WWE has committed to Sami Zayn as a heel ever since he aligned with Kevin Owens, saving him during Hell in a Cell against Shane McMahon. Since that moment, moves like his Barricade Moonsault, Diving DDT, and Blue Thunder Bomb have all vanished slowly as he fell deeper into his heel persona. Now The Great Liberator, he is more of a mouthpiece who happened to win the Intercontinental Championship due to his allies. This is a persona that has been working to get him over as a heel, and his flashy moves would remove this as they get crowds excited. Sami Zayn could simply be limiting him move set as it makes his current character work much more smoothly. Do you think Sami is just dedicated to his heel persona, or have injuries played a major role in making him one of the worst on the roster?
