Two weeks ago on Smackdown Live, The Celtic Warrior Sheamus made quick work of developmental talent Cal Bloom. The second generation superstar didn’t put up much fight against the multi-time World Champion, but he was able to stand tall and look Sheamus in the eyes before being knocked down with a Brogue Kick. Despite the losing effort, Bloom could have a bright future in WWE, as he impressed backstage.
Who Is Cal Bloom?
The son of Wayne Bloom (Beau Beverly) from the Beverly Brothers tag team, Cal Bloom is a second generation wrestler. He signed a developmental deal with WWE in March of 2019, and has been working on his in-ring ability in the WWE Performance Center, with this match against Sheamus being his television debut. Cal played football for University of Central Florida as a tight end for the UCF Knights before being scouted, likely a combination of his fathers legacy combined with his football background.
Bloom Impressed Vince McMahon
Despite his limited time in the ring with Sheamus, he got the kind of attention you want in WWE. This was the first time Vince McMahon got to see him in action, and he liked what he saw. “Everyone is comparing him to a young Edge,” said one WWE source. “He is rough around the edges but he has something and Vince thinks he can be a big deal but it will take some time.” This same source also noted that Vince feels that Cal has the look and size of a superstar, and was able to move around the ring nicely. We can’t expect to see the 25 year old get a major role yet, due to his inexperience but he could become a long term project for WWE in the future, and will likely make a major impact in NXT within the coming years.
Being young and having the approval of Vince McMahon already shows a potentially meteroic rise, and being compared to the 11 time world Champion Edge doesn’t hurt either. His father never found much success within WWE, but held the AWA World Tag Team Championship on one occasion with Mike Enos, best known as Blake Beverly.
Do you think Cal Bloom has potential, or is this just another case of Vince McMahon wanting to invest into a tall football player with a family legacy? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
