The fourth match of Pro Wrestling Revolution’s (also known as Revolucion de la Lucha Libre) October 5, 2019 event was likely the best match of the evening. As New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) mainstay Rocky Romero challenged for the Pro Wrestling Revolution Junior Heavyweight Championship against champion Colt Stevens (Border Patrol).
Rocky Romero is one of the most underrated performers in the world of professional wrestling, he’s the most underestimated asset when taking into consideration all he does for NJPW on and off-camera. His opponent Colt Stevens has the build, mannerisms, and skill of a wrestler who could serve several roles on a roster. Much like Andy Brown and Fidel Bravo earlier during the event, Stevens is more talented than some who are featured within national promotions in the United States.
The match itself was pretty straight forward, and the Rudo referee was utilized to negate Romero’s experience and prestige advantage against Stevens. Romero would eventually pin Stevens to seemingly win the Pro Wrestling Revolution Junior Heavyweight Championship, but the Rudo referee would overturn the Technico’s referee’s decision, claiming Romero hit him on purpose to gain the advantage.
Despite the convoluted finish, Rocky Romero and Colt Stevens had a good match that was told the story they wanted it to. The crowd gave Romero a great reaction throughout, understandable with California being where Romero lives and is the United States headquarters of NJPW. This is a match worth seeing if only to see one of the many different ways to have a good match in professional wrestling.
