The most shocking of the releases from WWE is the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev. Rumors have been bubbling about contract disputes and what not, but it has finally became reality, as he would be released alongside 20 other wrestlers from WWE today. Out of all of them, few have the potential upside that Rusev provides, making it likely that he would be able to make an impact anywhere he goes. What will be the next moves for Miroslav Barnyashev, best known as Rusev?
A Potential Top Star In All Elite Wrestling
While AEW has a very full roster and can’t sign every single person that WWE released today, someone like Rusev is too good to pass up. One of his nicknames is The Super Athlete, which is fitting as he is shockingly agile for a man of his build. Add in an insane amount of charisma and you have a huge star for a company like AEW, a situation very similar to that of Brodie Lee. Angles like that of Rusev Day or the weird soap opera drenched storyline with Bobby Lashley show that he has a diverse range, something that AEW would benefit from.
He would have to wait a while as AEW has taped through mid May as they build towards Double or Nothing, but he could debut on PPV to make an instant impaact.
Rusev Would Fit Right In With New Japan Pro Wrestling
As his hard hitting matches with Shinsuke Nakamura & Roman Reigns showed, Rusev would be a great fit in Japan. His style would need very little adapting, just get him a Suzuki-Gun tracksuit and let him go 30+ minutes with people like Tomohiro Ishii & Will Ospreay, and you have an instant star. At only 34, he is only just hitting his prime, and he could have some of the best matches of his career in Japan if that is where he chooses to go.
Rusev is the type of wrestler that should have been a bigger star within WWE, and who has a chance to prove himself elsewhere as a major missed opportunity.
