This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, we saw the debut of the Murderhawk Monster, Lance Archer. He ragdolled Marko Stunt all across the ring, and won in dominant fashion following a short match. His next step in AEW comes in the first round of the tournament to name the first ever TNT Champion. Will he prove to be a dominant force within AEW, or will he prove to be a flop?
Tournament Experience With New Japan Pro Wrestling
During his final year with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Lance Archer who was typically a tag team specialist was able to break out on his own after his partner left the promotion. During this time, he entered both the New Japan Cup and the G1 Climax. While he won neither, he had great showings in both. Combine this with past, if not less spectacular showings in previous years and he has more tournament experience than anyone else. He knows how to deal with the pressure in this setting.
Getting His Hands On Cody Rhodes
As the the protege of Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, the first major goal in AEW for Lance Archer is to take out Cody Rhodes and take his spot on the Top 5 rankings. While Cody is in the tournament, he is on the other half of the bracket; meaning both will have to make it to the finals to make this happen. This is a very likely scenerio in the tournament, as that would make for a huge finals. His road through his bracket is either going to be easy or very tricky. In the first round, he has the crafty veteran in Colt Cabana. After that match, he could face the winner of Dustin Rhodes vs. Kip Sabian, placing him against either the most veteran talent in the tournament, or a hot up and comer.
Lance Archer Is A Favorite To Win
With his combined size and agility, Lance Archer is going to be a very hard man to beat in this tournament. His dominant performance against Marko Stunt is just a taste of what is to come from him, and we will see the full scope throughout this tournament. While it is possible someone plays spoiler, Lance Archer might as well be a lock for the finals of his bracket. He just has that much potential in this one.
