The NXT Cruiserweight Championship isn’t the only title effected by travel bans set in place by the outbreak of COVID-19. One half of the NXT Tag Team Champions, Pete Dunne is currently in the UK and thus is unable to help Matt Riddle defend the championships. Because of this, NXT General Manager William Regal made a decision. Instead of stripping Matt Riddle of his title, Riddle will have to find a new tag team partner to defend the titles with, which will be defended as part of NXT tonight against The Undisputed Era.
Who Will Matt Riddle Choose?
With just a few hours before showtime, Matt Riddle does not have much time to waste in finding a suitable replacement for Pete Dunne. There are many good options, starting with NXT North American Champion Keith Lee. They’ve teamed together before, and Lee hasn’t got a new challenger for the NA title yet, so I think this is the most likely option given that even a loss could force a Keith Lee vs. Matt Riddle singles feud. Another option could be an old rival in Kassius Ohno, who is mostly seen on NXT UK at this point but is a very tough competitor. Finally given that this is another chance to face The Undisputed Era, we could see Velveteen Dream get involved, adding more fuel to that fire.
Will Undisputed Era Become Champions Once Again?
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that The Undisputed Era are perhaps the best tag team that NXT has ever seen, being record three time Tag Team Champions, with all four members having defended them at some point. We aren’t likely to see the default team of Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly, as we haven’t seen Kyle in weeks, possibly being inactive due to his Type-1 diabetes putting him at higher risk. A team of Bobby Fish & Roderick Strong would make the most sense, as they have both been active on NXT as of late, with Strong facing Riddle very recently as well.
It seems very likely that they will become four time champions, even for a brief time. Indus Sher seem to be groomed as the next dominant champions, but it is too soon to put the gold on that duo. Do you think Riddle and his new partner will retain the gold, or is it time for Undisputed Era to rebuild their golden empire? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
