Ever since Keith Lee became NXT North American Champion, there have been many people eager to get a shot at him one on one. Dominic Dijakovic & Cameron Grimes have both faced Lee in singles action, with the result being the same. Damien Priest has yet to get his singles shot, but did face Lee alongside Dijakovic in a Triple Threat match. Not satisfied with the result of that match which saw Dijakovic get pinned, he has directly challenged Lee at this point for a match, which he gets tonight. To make things easier, Priest had attacked Lee last week on NXT, taking him out of the tag team main event when he would hit Lee twice in the throat with a night stick, leaving his with a bruised larynx. Will that prove to be an advantage for the Archer Of Infamy, or will Keith Lee just be even more destructive now that he is pissed off?
Another Match Between Agile Heavyweights
With a signature big match feeling in the empty arena, the match would begin rather slowly as both men would try for early strikes as both men tried for the early advantage. Keith Lee would get this, after simply running into Priest. Priest knew that the throat was the target, focusing there but he would need to wear down Lee to get a chance at victory as he was dumped over the top rope with a lariat. With Lee coming outside after Priest, this would turn into a fight, as Priest would be body pressed from beyond the barricade into the edge of the ring like he was a small child. Priest would try to fight back and introduce Lee to the steel steps, would fail. Only when Lee charged at Priest and ended up through the barricade would the energy change.
Back in the ring, Priest attacked the bruised larynx with a chin lock, and maintain his advantage after freeing him after diving into the corner with a back elbow. An attempted Suplex would be countered with a big knee, before Lee would deadlift Priest, only for Priest to find his footing for a neckbreaker. Again going for the suplex, it would fail once again with Lee fighting out. A clap to the ears would stun Lee, who would then pounce Priest into the corner to create space. Once both men were back to their feet, Lee would hit a huge one arm spinebuster for a near fall. Then after Priest rolled to the outside, the 332lb Lee would hit a flawless corkscrew plancha and wipe out Priest, just in-case anyone forgot he is a new breed of heavyweight.
Keith Lee Is Limitless
Once he was able to get back to his feet and inside the ring, Priest would be shut down again, this time with a lariat. Attempting the Spirit Bomb would fail, and Priest would attempt a chokebreaker. Lee would grab Priest’s throat in response causing a stalemate. They would have an exchange of strikes, with Priest winning out and finally hitting the Broken Arrow Suplex, but Lee could roll to the outside and regroup. This wouldn’t last long as Priest would dive over the turnbuckle into Lee, sending him through the barricade. Sending Lee back in the ring, he would climb the top rope, and hit a spinning back kick from the top rope.
Back on his feet, Lee used his head to knock Priest to the apron, but as he climbed the top rope he would be intercepted with a right hand. Lee would hit a dead-lift superplex from the second rope, lifting Priest all the way from the apron to bring him into the center of the ring. Still with some fight, Priest launched a final assault capped off with a chokeslam, but Lee kicked out at two. Frustrated, Priest would grab the nightstick and distract the ref with the North American Title, but Lee would block the Night Stick shot. Hit the Grizzly Magnum Chop, calmly hand the referee the night stick, hit a double Spirit Bomb and pin Damien Priest.
Victorious Once Again
This was another fantastic match from Keith Lee, who might be the best NXT North American Champion in the belts short history. While this match mimicked the style of his bouts with Dijakovic, it was still an absolute treat of a main event. Who should challenge Keith Lee next?
