After the previous announcement of WWE declaring cutback within the company, there have now been many talents released. This includes both wrestlers and backstage agents, from all parts of the roster. Some will come as a surprise while others have been vocal about wanting to leave the company for a while.
The Following Active WWE Wrestlers Have Been Released
At the time of writing, a large amount of active wrestlers on the WWE roster have been released. The biggest names in this group are Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows, the multiple time tag team champions and winner of the Best Tag Team In The World gauntlet match. Aiden English has been released, and it has been a while since he wrestled, making this not as surprising, focusing on commentary for 205 Live. EC3 has been a talent who wanted out of the company for quite some time, not happy with his position which hardly saw him get on TV, and he gets his wish granted at an awful time.
Heath Slater & Curt Hawkins are two undercard jobber like talents who have been let go, with Hawkins partner of Zack Ryder joining soon after. Rowan has been released, his last major storyline involved the mystery of what was in his cage. The Colons after not appearing on WWE TV for nearly two years have also been cut. Mike & Maria Kannelis join the group, after a long period of inactivity. No Way Jose appeared on Monday Night RAW in a loss to Lashley, and has now lost his job in the company as well.
The biggest name in the bunch is Rusev, who has been a consistent force in WWE over the last few years, winning the United States Championship many times and being in a high profile angle with Bobby Lashley in 2019.
Former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush has also been released, along with former 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick. Maverick was set to begin wrestling for WWE with the upcoming Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament, which will now be his final matches for the company. Sarah Logan of Riott Squad fame was also released, following a loss to Shayna Baszler on Monday Night RAW. Finally, former Sanity leader Eric Young has been released, he mostly wrestled on Main Event, and worked as a producer.
Several Backstage Producers Let Go As Well
In WWE, wrestlers would get help putting their matches together from experienced veterans. There have been ten confirmed releases in this regard, with the biggest being Kurt Angle, who retired from the ring at Wrestlemania 35. Angle worked as a backstage agent since that date. Joining him in this group are Billy Kidman, Mike Rotunda, Dave Finlay, Pat Buck, Shawn Daivari, Scott Armstrong, Sarah Stock, Shane Helms & Lance Storm. Some have been in this role for years like Kidman, Helms and Finlay, are likely to be rehired when the situation clears up.
We hope that everyone effected by this string of releases is able to get back on their feet, and that WWE pays them the remainder of their salaries. What do you think about this batch of releases from WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
