Another episode of AEW Dark will soon be available on YouTube and yes, I’m covering it again this week. I realize this is quite inconsistent. But with the nature of things right now, these shows are often very short and almost always half made up of people I’ve never heard of and couldn’t really give a lot of insight on. So it didn’t make a lot of sense to put much spotlight on them in that form. Tonight’s a little different though… tonight we’ve got nine matches to look forward to! That’s a lot! Granted aside from the main event it still looks like Squash Central but it seems like there’s just too much going on this week to be ignored. Since I can only say so much about most of the workers, I’m doing this a bit differently than most. Every match will be in one preview and I’m gonna be focusing on the ‘name’ talent in question. With that out of the way, let’s get into the AEW Dark Preview!
Jon Cruz vs. 10
10 of the Dark Order, or Preston Vance as they seem to be going by both, is a seemingly recent acquisition. His genuine backstory is that of a former Heisman hopeful that found his career and life ruined by injury. Everyone he thought cared about him lost interest when his local celebrity status faded and that path led him to joining the Dark Order. It’s hard to say at this stage how significant he’ll be in the grand scheme of AEW but we should get a decent look at what we’re working with tonight.
Jurassic Express vs. Mike Reed & Ryan Rembrandt
Never heard of a Rembrandt in wrestling before, I kinda like it as a ringname. Anwyay this is the first time we’ve seen Luchasaurus and Jungleboy in quite a while so this should be fun. There’s a few cases of that on this show actually.
Lee Johnson & MUSA vs. Private Party
Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen taking time off from their budding rivalry with a large teddy bear on BTE to come and get a quick win on Dark! Always like seeing them get a W.
Britt Baker vs. Skyler Moore
Britt is part of a fatal four way match tomorrow night on Dynamite, alongside Kris Statlander, Hikaru Shida and Penelope Ford where the winner will be facing Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s World Championship, presumably at Double or Nothing. It’s not a bad time for her to get a quick win in.
Kris Statlander vs. Dani Jordyn
I’m glad to see the travel ban from the Andromeda galaxy has been lifted, it’s a real sign of progress. Statlander’s trek will no doubt lead to a win ahead of the high stakes fatal four way on Dynamite tomorrow night.
Orange Cassidy vs. Jason Cade
In hindsight, Cassidy maybe should’ve been in some squashes already. It should be fun seeing his antics bewilder a hapless jabroni.
Colt Cabana vs. Shawn Dean
Cabana looking to bounce back from a tough loss in the first round of the TNT title tournament, having the misfortune of drawing Lance Archer right out of the gate. He was building up a budding feud with Kip Sabian before and I assume we’ll be going back to that soon as more of the roster returns.
Alan Angels vs. Rey Fenix
This was a nice surprise! I’m so pumped to see Fenix back, I’ve missed the Lucha Bros a lot. Alan Angels also happens to be the guy who Kenny Omega gave a real match to a few weeks ago and made a lot of people mad. I kinda have to think he might be in their better graces than other enhancements and might be on the verge of a signing if not being signed already. We’ll see if he has the same kinda of showing against another of the world’s top workers in Fenix here.
Dr. Luther vs. Jimmy Havoc
This match has been building up for quite some time, though the pandemic forced them to put in pause for a little while. But now Luther has managed to return and we’re having ourselves a match. If not for AEW’s outright aversion to DQs I’d actually predict some kind of double disqualification finish here with the two deathmatch legends being unable to avoid using weapons. Honestly given the circumstances they might just go for that anyway. Regardless of what happens it’ll be setting up a violent bout down the road, perhaps an Unsanctioned match? If I had to pick one to win though I’ll go with Jimmy Havoc.
