Tonight, live on Pay-Per-View we have AEW Double Or Nothing 2020! Only the second annual incarnation of DoN, it’s their first attempt at a PPV in the Pandemic era. Hopefully it’s the only one they’ll have to do… below, you’ll see the same live results as usual, plus links to in-depth recaps of every match. Watch this space!
Buy-In: On the Kickoff we see Lance Archer destroying a run-down old house with a sledgehammer as he prepares for his match with Cody. In the first match of the night, Private Party and the Best Friends face off in a match for the next shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships. In the end the Best Friends got the victory.
Match 1: The Casino Ladder Match opens the show. It’s a wild match with some violent spots, some hilarious ones, but always exciting. The ninth man, the mystery man, ended up being Brian Cage – with Taz seemingly acting as his manager! Cage ran through everyone for much of his stay and ultimately took down the chip, earning himself a future AEW World Championship match!
Match 2: In what I can only succinctly describe as an instant classic, MJF defeated Jungleboy by winning out on a roll-up exchange.
Match 3: In the TNT Championship Tournament Final, Cody took on Lance Archer. During the match both managers were ejected, Jake Roberts tried to defy this but Mike Tyson scared him off. Cody got the victory with the third Cross-Rhodes and became the first-ever TNT Champion.
Match 4: Kris Statlander defeated Penelope Ford in a back-and-forth bout.
Match 5: Shawn Spears comes out in a suit, not dressed to wrestle because of how confident he is about Dustin Rhodes not showing up. After a cocky promo, Dustin does indeed appear and humiliates him by stripping him to his undies during the match before getting the quick victory.
Match 6: Up next was a brutal No DQ, No Countout match between Hikaru Shida and Nyla Rose with the AEW Women’s World Championship on the line. It was a physical battle through and through, focused heavily on them fighting back and forth with a lone kendo stick for the most part. Shida ultimately got the victory with two Shining Wizards!
Match 7: Next up, Jon Moxley put the AEW World Championship on the line against Mr. Brodie Lee in a brutal, physical and, by the end, bloody title bout. It’d have been a crowd clearing brawl if only there were a crowd! Three Paradigm Shifts, including one that took them both through the ramp, still couldn’t do it but a rear naked choke on the bleeding Brodie Lee finally made him pass out to force the submission!
Match 8: The main event saw the one-of-a-kind Stadium Stampede match which I recapped to the best of my ability but really defies explanation… in the end, the Elite got their big victory after Kenny Omega hit Sammy Guevara with what will have to go down as the single craziest One Winged Angel of all time.
