WWE has been releasing a majority of their undercard talent as of late, as COVID-19 threatens their business. Combine this with a shift in focus away from their intense live event focused approach, many names like Heath Slater & No Way Jose were no longer needed. However, Slater has already been shot down by AEW, if Cody Rhodes has his way.
“Nope, no on Heath Slater.”
During a Q&A session on Instagram Live, Cody Rhodes would be asked about if AEW was interested in signing the ‘One Man Rock Band Heath Slater. He would simply respond, “Nope, no on Heath Slater.” Cody is an executive vice president in All Elite Wrestling, giving him pull backstage while also being one of their top stars, soon to face Lance Archer to determine the first ever TNT Championship.
After catching wind of this news, Heath would respond on Twitter. “Damn!! NO. Nope on Heath?? I know you are a new business man but that was a bad business decision .@CodyRhodes” This tweet would be liked by Cody, potentially being a joke between old friends, as both men spent time within WWE together. The comment could have been made in jest.
Will Slater Have A Grander Version Of His 2016 Gimmick?
The peak of popularity for Heath Slater came after he went undrafted in 2016. He would appear on both RAW & Smackdown to plead for a job, cutting some of the best promos in his wrestling career. This storyline would conclude with Slater winning the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships alongside Rhyno, in a team that would last until Rhyno would be released from the company.
Once wrestling returns to normal, Slater could show up on any major companies like Ring Of Honor, National Wrestling Alliance, Impact Wrestling and potentially even AEW as he tries everything to get a job to support his family. This would be potentially make Slater a star across many promotions until he finds the perfect home for him. After years of being burnt out in WWE, this would allow him to reinvigorate his career and face a great variety of new opponents.
