While WWE recently released MMA legend Cain Velazquez from his WWE contract, they might gain another top MMA star in the next few years. Potentially following in the footsteps of Rhonda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, this being the current UFC Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes. She is a 10 fight win streak, with two victories along the way being at the expense Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. Rouseys final fight in MMA was with Nunes, who absolutely destroyed her in 48 seconds. She has now shown interest in coming to WWE once she is done with MMA.
Highlighting That She Beat Shayna Baszler
After posting a highlight to Instagram of her domination of Shayna Baszler, she would be asked about the current home of Baszler, that being WWE. She also spoke on Baszler, and how the post was not intended to mock the current WWE Superstar. “That was a huge moment in my career. It’s not about showing people that I hurt her, it’s a reminder to me about believing in my coach. My coach at the time wanted me to drop her with the leg kick, and that’s what happened.”
Amanda Nunes Looking Into WWE As An Option
She is open to a future run in WWE, saying the following from an interview with Sports Illustrated. “Not right now, but maybe later when I retire. I’m open to it. Why not? I could try something new.” She is still in the prime of her MMA career, so this would be a few years off, but if she was able to transistion as well as others like Ken Shamrock, Minoru Suzuki, Ronda Rousey and Matt Riddle had to the ring, she would be incredible. Others like Tito Ortiz & Chuck Lidell have shown interest in working with WWE in the future, but the firing of Cain Velazquez might turn them off from looking to work there in the future. Ortiz had been training at the WWE Performance Center, but there has been no news of his having any type of deal with the company.
The recent trend of moving from MMA to professional wrestling is likely to continue in future years, even if Nunes doesn’t make the jump. There is a large amount of crossover between the two worlds. Wrestling fans would love people like Chael Soreson & Connor McGregor to enter the Squared Circle. Which MMA stars would you like to see in WWE?
