There’s been some controversy surrounding Alberto Del Rio and the WWE about his returning to the promotion where he’s been WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion, but this time he may be have gotten himself into a situation too big to dig himself out of. Reports indicate Alberto Del Rio was arrested for sexual assault in Texas.
The accusation
According to TMZ , Del Rio allegedly assaulted a woman by slapping her on the head when he was angry, then forced her to wear a dress and dance. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her. He allegedly threatened to drop her son off in the middle of the road somewhere is she told anyone about his actions.
According to reports, she went to the police to file a complaint on May 3 and had her injuries photographed.
This led to Del Rio’s arrest and he’s reportedly in police custody awaiting the completion of being booked and processed at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. At this moment, the full extent of charges against him are unknown, and we await further news.
Journeyman career
Del Rio had spent his early career moving from one promotion to another before finding a semi-permanent home in the WWE. He quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Money in the Bank match and the WWE Championship and WWE World Heavyweight Championship from 2011 to 2013. He left the company in 2014 before returning in 2016, but to nowhere near the heights he’d achieved previously.
He once again moved from promotion to promotion, working for Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground, and Impact Wrestling. He was released from Impact in 2018 for pulling a no show as a Lucha Underground-Impact event.
With CM Punk back in the public spotlight recently, fans have been lighting up social media about Punk and Del Rio coming back to the WWE, but the WWE has stated they had no intention of signing either of them at this time.
