While the shows after Wrestlemania are often a time when hot acts from NXT move to the main roster, this year we didn’t get much of that. People like The Undisputed Era, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano & more have stayed put in NXT, but one group did move. This was The Forgotten Sons, Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler & Jaxson Ryker. They were far from a hot act in NXT, with only a few notable matches and moments to their name, but now they are part of the Smackdown Live roster, have a win over The New Day, and will compete in a fatal four way tag team match for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Money In The Bank. What gave them such a quick rise on Smackdown?
Smackdown Is Down A Top Tag Team
As previously reported, there were some injuries coming out of Wrestlemania. One of these came to half of The Usos, when Jimmy Uso would suffer a knee injury during the Triple Threat Ladder Match, an injury that will keep him out of action until 2021. Because of this, Jey Uso is also likely to be sidelined, or be given a role as a singles midcarder. Regardless of what happens with Jey, The Usos as a tag team will not be in action for the foreseeable future. This means that there was an opening that was easily filled by some overlooked talent in NXT.
The Forgotten Sons Have A Perk Over The Usos
While they might not be as good of workers as The Usos, The Forgotten Sons have a major perk in that they are a trio, not unlike The New Day. There is a member of The New Day currently sidelined, that being Xavier Woods, but that hasn’t stopped them from being an active team. This is because there is still a workable tag team in Kofi Kingston & Big E. The Forgotten Sons have that same benefit, as is Cutler or Blake were to get injured, they have Ryker to step in and keep the team on TV without issue. This arguably makes them much safer to focus on, and why we could see WWE shift to a trio approach to teams.
Do you think Forgotten Sons will prove that they belong in the Smackdown Tag Team division during their time here, or will they be left in the dust when The Usos return? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
